CGPA to GPA Converter (4.0 Scale)

The CGPA to GPA converter at allgradecalculator.com is built for students applying from India and Pakistan to US universities. The tool first converts your CGPA to a percentage using your local formula, then maps that percentage to a US GPA on the 0.0–4.0 scale used by American admissions committees.

Formula: percentage = (CGPA / 4.0) × 100

The two-step conversion

Step 1 converts your CGPA to a percentage using the formula for your country and university (CBSE × 9.5, general (CGPA − 0.75) × 10, HEC CGPA / 4.0 × 100, etc.). Step 2 converts the percentage to a US 4.0 GPA using the standard letter-grade boundaries: 93+ = 4.0, 90–92 = 3.7, 87–89 = 3.3, etc.

How to use the calculator

  1. Pick your country's CGPA formula.
  2. Enter your CGPA — the calculator gives you the percentage.
  3. Look up the US GPA in the reference table above (or use the live result on the right).
  4. Round to one decimal place when reporting on a US application.

Common scenarios

  • Indian B.Tech 8.5 CGPA (general formula): 8.5 → 77.5% → US GPA ≈ 3.3 (B+).
  • Indian CBSE 9.6 CGPA: 9.6 → 91.2% → US GPA ≈ 3.85 (A−).
  • Pakistani 3.5 CGPA (HEC 4.0): 3.5 → 87.5% → US GPA ≈ 3.4 (B+).

Tips

Always include both your local CGPA and the converted GPA on applications. Many US universities want to see the original scale alongside the conversion. A WES evaluation is preferable for graduate programs; this calculator is your fastest first check before paying for one.

Frequently asked questions

Why is two-step conversion needed?

A 10-point CGPA is not the same as a 4.0 GPA — they use different scales and grade boundaries. Going through percentage is the standard approach used by WES (World Education Services) and most US universities.

How accurate is the result?

It matches the standard US 4.0 scale used by most public universities. Private universities and graduate programs sometimes apply their own internal scale; ask each university how they want to see foreign GPAs.

Should I have my transcript evaluated by WES?

Most US universities accept WES, ECE, or IERF evaluations for international transcripts. They use a similar conversion philosophy but apply additional checks. This calculator is a free preview of what a credential evaluator would produce.
